What About the Risks?
Research shows that certain types of hormone therapy may increase patients’ risk of blood clots, stroke, weight gain, and gallbladder disease. Using bioidentical hormone therapy may reduce these risks, but there have been no major research studies of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Bioidentical estriol and progesterone have been approved by the FDA, but some custom-compounded bioidenticals have not yet been approved. Talk to your doctor about the risks and potential benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
